Manuals

The Honda SH125i was a single cylinder, four-stroke scooter produced by Honda between 2002 and 2019. It could reach a top speed of 60 mph (97 km/h). Max torque was 8.48 ft/lbs (11.5 Nm) @ 7000 RPM. Claimed horsepower was 11.8 HP (8.8 KW) @ 8500 RPM.

Ride quality & brakes

4 out of 5 (4/5)

Despite its small size and Tesco Value price tag, the Honda Grom goes and stops in much the same way as a regular-sized motorcycle. It may look like a bit of a novelty and cars do seem much bigger on the move, but there was plenty of room on board for this 5ft6in tester.

You may only have a six-litre fuel tank between your legs and tiny 12in rims below you, but the raised, wide bars offer a comfortable reach and there’s enough room to the foot pegs to prevent any pain in your knees.

There’s also a flat bench seat for a rider and pillion, which allows you to stretch out on longer journeys for a little extra leg room. I found myself doing this after more than 45 minutes of continuous riding. I’d imagine it would be a shorter time for taller riders.

Not only is it surprisingly comfortable, but it’s also excellent fun through a tight bend. The chassis is unchanged for 2021 and there may only be basic non-adjustable springs at each end, but it soaks up the cracks of urban tarmac with ease and provides enough stability to confidently throw it about like a ragdoll out of town – sticking your leg out or scraping the tiny foot pegs like the world’s smallest supermoto.

It even manages to make road furniture like mini roundabouts and speedbumps into a game and you have absolute confidence in the road-focussed IRC rubber, which really impressed on our dry summer outing.

But what about the weak points? Well, whilst the suspension will cope amicably with most features of urban asphalt, it felt absolutely horrendous over cobbles – running out of travel at both ends before transferring the energy into your arms, legs, and back.

Then there’s the brakes which, whilst stopping you perfectly well, offer little in the way of feedback from either end.

That’ll be fine if you’re a new rider but may feel odd for an experienced pilot. That said, the ABS is unobtrusive no matter how hard you deploy the anchors and there’s none of that annoying hazard light flashing when you do so.

Engine and Transmission

The 125cc liquid-cooled eSP+ engine (enhanced Smart Power plus) really is the star of the show with the SH125i and illustrates how much technology can be crammed into such a small package. Compliant to Euro5, the powerplant features 4 valves, fuel injection, low-friction design and ‘Idling Stop’ for reduced fuel consumption and noise at idle (the engine cuts when idling for 3 seconds and restarts at the twist of the throttle). Quick to rev, and as smooth as silk, the engine is the epitome of Honda engineering and no matter how hard it’s worked, never seems to struggle. On the road, the engine is super flexible and happy to rev right up to the rev-limiter in top (giving an indicated 75mph).

Power is delivered via a traditional CVT (continuously variable transmission) arrangement, giving a simple twist-and-go, single gear riding experience which makes for effortless progress and a confidence inspiring ride. While some CVT systems can struggle with low speed pick up, meaning that take off from the lights involves high revs and not much forward momentum, Honda have got the balance spot on with the SH125i, making slow speed filtering and riding at a walking pace an absolute breeze.

Second Opinion – Honda PCX Owner

Bennetts Rewards member Gavin Farrow currently rides a Honda PCX125 which he uses mainly for commuting, but now also for delivering food parcels to his elderly shielding parents. We spent a (Bike)Socially distanced afternoon with Gavin as he tried the SH125i on a range of roads around Peterborough…

“While it’s not the prettiest of bikes, it’s far from ugly. It does remind me of my nan’s old moped! At 6′(ish), I liked the high sitting position which is more suited to taller people and gave a good advantage when riding through town. However, by being slightly more upright I did find it a little more difficult to swerve and weave around manhole covers and potholes. As with my PCX125, the bike delivers great acceleration away from the traffic lights, so I had no concerns about filtering to the front of traffic. For the commuter, the added topbox and under seat storage means you can carry all you need in the way of work equipment, whether it’s a laptop or books and even a change of clothes. The rear ABS was also a nice addition and was reassuring when needed.

“Overall, I feel the price point, even with the added top box and keyless start, is just a little too high, though this is definitely more of a serious bike when put alongside some of its counterparts”

Honda Lead 125 2022 Design

Specifications Honda Lead 125 2022. Honda recently launched a new automatic scooter (scooter) that looks luxurious in the style of European motorcycles. In terms of design, the Honda Lead 125 2022 looks like a Honda Spacy, but this bike has its own advantages, with larger dimensions. For the front and rear lights, LEDs are used. Slightly different from the Honda Vario, the main Honda Lead lights are on the top of the handlebar shell, while for the motorcycle body as a whole it looks wider, especially in the middle to the rear.

This can be seen from the front of the Honda Lead 125 which uses a single headlamp located on the steering handlebars.

As for the twilight and turn signals from the Honda Lead 125, they are located on the front side.

Then for the instrument panel, this new Honda motorbike uses a combination of digital analog with a simple design.

At first glance, it reminds of the design of the Honda Spacy or SH150i which was previously circulating in Indonesia.

Honda Lead 125 2022 Specifications

Honda Lead 125 2022 specifications are completely new and very different, Honda Lead 125 2022 specifications Use the latest generation engine with a capacity of 124.8 cc from Honda, namely the ESP + single cylinder configuration, 4 stroke, with 4 valves, SOHC, and also liquid cooled. The engine used is exactly the same as the Honda Lead 125 which was first marketed in Vietnam.

For its own performance, it has a peak power of 8.22 kW or about 11.17609 PS which is achieved at 8,500 rpm but unfortunately for peak torque it is not included in the specification table on this motorbike. But one more thing that is very tempting is the fuel consumption is quite economical. In one liter this bike can take you to have fun as far as 52 km / liter.

Engine

4 out of 5 (4/5)

New for 2020, the four-valve eSP+ motor replaces the older model’s two-valve eSP engine (enhanced Smart Power) and makes more power and torque, with the claimed 12.9bhp (up from 11.9bhp) and 8.9ftlb of torque (up from 8.5ftlb) delivered lower in the rev range thanks to a new bigger bore/shorter stroke design.

Idling Stop technology is included (which can be deactivated via a bar-mounted switch) and so is Honda Selectable Torque Control (traction control), which can be deactivated. While the motor does feel a bit sprightlier than before, it’s not a dramatic performance increase and only very loose gravel sees the HSTC activate.

2021 Honda PCX125

The PCX125 is regularly the best selling motorcycle in the UK and Europe and since launch, it’s sold over 140,000 units in Europe alone.

Top of the updates for 2021 is the most noticeable change, the styling. The bike has been given a nose to tail makeover, with crisper lines and a more modern take on the aerodynamic shape that’s become synonymous with the model.

The bike now also features LED lighting from front to back, with the headlight now incorporating LED DRLs and a centrally mounted headlight. The taillight is an interesting feature, with a type of 3d thing going on thanks to the liberal use of optic fibre – we like it and would like to see this on other models please Mr Honda San!

The new bike also features increased space in the under-seat storage area. Honda has added an extra 2.4l to the space, boosting it to 30.4l and meaning there is space for a lid, and probably some wet weather kit too. The glovebox of the bike now also features a USB Type-C socket for charging of devices on the go.

The PCX125 now includes the Honda Smart Key system. The Smart Key controls the main ignition switch and also storage comparts. It can also manage the optional 35L removable Smart top box. With the Smart Key in the rider’s pocket the box is unlocked and automatically locks when the rider walks away. It can also be locked from the key.

The PCX125’s new, Smart Power Plus (eSP+) four-valve, water-cooled SOHC powerplant delivers 12.3bhp @ 8,750rpm, with peak torque of 8.7lb-ft @ 6,500rpm. Bore and stroke is set at 53.5 x 55.5mm with compression ratio of 11.5:1 (as opposed to 52.4 x 57.9mm and 11:1 of the previous design). The shorter stroke not only allows room for the two extra valves, but it also reduces sliding friction.

2020 HONDA SH125I Economy

My usual test ride route takes in just over 100 miles of scratching B-roads, sweeping A-roads, some small stretches of Motorway grade dual-carriageway and some of the busiest city centre riding that Cambridgeshire has to offer. It’s a good mixture of high and low speeds, uneven roads and sweeping bends along with some rush-hour congestion just for the fun of it and not only did the Honda take it all in its stride, but returned an average fuel consumption figure of 103.7 mpg. While that’s shy of the official figures that Honda claim (at 134mpg), it’s still quite an astonishing achievement. I had been purposely less than sympathetic, holding the little scoot at full throttle and using every one of the limited horses to get ahead and yet, with a tank capacity of 7 litres, the SH125i is still capable of running close to 160 miles for around £8 in fuel.

Putting that into real-world terms, you could be doing a daily commute of 32 miles for less than the price of a coffee. Travel doesn’t get any cheaper than this, unless you fancy walking!
